The Democratic Alliance (DA) is proud to announce Henriette du Plessis as our mayoral candidate for Gamagara in the 2026 local government elections.

Her candidacy comes at a decisive moment for Gamagara, where years of ANC failure have left residents with collapsing infrastructure, unreliable water supply, failing sewerage systems, and incomplete schools stalled by financial mismanagement and alleged corruption.

Despite Gamagara’s mineral wealth, communities have seen little benefit under ANC governance. Instead, residents have endured declining services, weak financial controls, and towns in steady decline.

It doesn’t have to be like this. Henriette has already shown what capable leadership can achieve in Gamagara.

During her previous term as Mayor, she brought stability and discipline to Gamagara. Within just 10 days of taking office, she turned a R47 million deficit into a R19 million surplus through strict financial controls and by cutting wasteful expenditure.

She ended unnecessary luxury spending, including a costly mayoral vehicle, and redirected resources to service delivery. Functional vehicles were deployed for electricity and roads teams to keep frontline services running, despite severe inherited constraints.

Her administration prioritised clean governance, transparent appointments, and practical delivery. Jobs were created through public employment programmes, infrastructure maintenance began, and partnerships with local stakeholders helped improve roads and public spaces.

That progress, however, was cut short by political instability and the return of ANC-aligned governance, which quickly reversed these gains and plunged Gamagara back into decline.

Henriette now returns as the DA’s candidate to restore stability, rebuild municipal capacity, and deliver accountable government. Her mission is clear: put residents first, restore reliable services, and replace cadre deployment with competence.

Her candidacy reflects the DA’s firm belief that better government is possible. Where the DA governs, communities benefit from stronger financial management, improved service delivery, and leadership that is accountable to the people.

The 2026 local government elections present residents of Gamagara with a clear choice: continued decline under ANC instability, or renewal under proven DA leadership. Henriette and the DA have delivered before and with the support of residents, they will do so again.

Now is the time to rebuild Gamagara!
