ANC–EFF pact in Sol Plaatje driven by fear, not service delivery

The Democratic Alliance notes with serious concern the announced doomsday coalition between the ANC and the EFF in the Sol Plaatje Municipality.

Presented as an effort to “stabilise governance,” this pact is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt by the ANC to cling to power as it loses its grip on Sol Plaatje. It is not about residents, it is about political survival, backroom deals, and dividing positions, while communities are left to deal with the consequences.

South Africans have seen what happens when the ANC and EFF join forces in municipalities like Nelson Mandela Bay, the City of Johannesburg, and closer to home Phokwane and Thembelihle – resulting in chaos, from uncollected hazardous waste and dysfunctional bucket sanitation systems to audit failures, irregular expenditure, and severe financial distress. Sol Plaatje cannot afford to be dragged further down a path of chaos, infighting, decision-making paralysis, and a rapid decline in service delivery.

Kimberley residents are already paying the price of ANC failure. They drive on pothole-ridden roads, live in dirty and neglected neighbourhoods, and face unsafe, dark streets due to broken streetlights. They endure ongoing water shortages, sewage spills, and rolling power cuts. Yet instead of fixing these failures, the ANC is focused on securing its own survival.

The people of Sol Plaatje deserve a government that puts them first, not one built on fear and desperation.

The DA remains the only party with a proven track record of governing municipalities that work and delivering reliable services, clean audits, sound financial management, and accountable leadership.

We call on residents of Sol Plaatje to reject the ANC-EFF coalition of convenience and to support a party that can deliver real, lasting change for Kimberley.

The DA stands ready to rescue and rebuild Sol Plaatje into a municipality that works for all its people.
