There is an urgent need for the Northern Cape government to work hand in hand with political partners to grow the economy, create jobs and spend limited resources more efficiently and effectively on basic services to achieve a Northern Cape that cares for and works for all its people.
Key Points:
• In addition to jobs and growth, the DA’s priority in the Northern Cape remains fixing the broken and under-resourced health sector and the financially strained education sector.
• More must be done to combat the impregnation of minors and clinics and hospitals must be supported to voluntarily avail the critical information required to law enforcement to ensure their successful prosecution.
• The Boegoebaai Harbour project is a long-time in the making, with blended financing and international partners. It has the potential to be a game changer for the Northern Cape and must be safeguarded through transparent and accountable management and the inclusion of the local community in order for them to benefit.
• It is essential that we see tangible results in combatting corruption, particularly in cases which deprive our communities of crucial resources. More feedback is needed on the lifestyle audits by the SIU and there is a much greater need for transparency in government projects.

” I agree with you, Hon. Premier, that the Provincial Government and Legislature should introduce measures that hold all sectors of government accountable. I want to propose a Provincial Local Government Desk (PLGD) that functions out of the Premier’s Office that together with political leaders and key role players in our communities, oversees implementation of the Premier’s five-year plan and holds municipalities accountable for their expenditure to ensure that these funds are utilized effectively.”
