Streetlighting backlogs in the Nama Khoi coalition municipality are set to become a thing of the past after the purchase of 1000 lightbulbs.

The bulk order, delivered this week, was made possible thanks to collections received from private business and individuals, and has not cost the municipality a cent. I appreciate the coalition’s support for this initiative that clearly demonstrates that the Nama Khoi coalition is committed to achieving community objectives, even under severe financial constraints.

Nama Khoi, together with stakeholders, has chosen to prioritise the provision of well-lit streets because they are important for road safety, and the deterrence of crime and vandalism.

The 1000 light bulbs will enable the municipality to address the backlog of around 500 non-operational streetlights, while also ensuring that there is plenty of stock for future globe replacements.

The municipality is busy working on a roll-out programme to action the replacement of broken globes in towns all across Nama Khoi, in the most efficient way possible.

I believe that this bulk purchase, which has proven to be more cost effective than small orders, will set a new trend in the municipality, to facilitate improved value for money and service delivery. The municipality will also look at solutions to address constraints with its two Cherry Pickers, to ensure faster and a more sustained supply of delivery.
